As we all know, the modern technology has enabled humans to do a lot of new things with their lives. Heck, the miracle of internet means that people can create these so called websites and post whatever content they want on them. Pretty awesome, right? Well, there are indeed millions upon millions of websites online, if not billions. This is a great thing – the average internet surfer has immediate access to pretty much all of these billions internet sites. But sometimes this can be for the worse. For example, the good webpages may sometimes be cluttered in the garbage, and people may not get the chance to see them. Luckily, the world’s most famous search engine, Google, has introduced two new updates to the way the results are being shown on the search engine.
And these two major updates are called – you guessed t – Panda and Penguin. Why did they select the names of these two cute species of animals…? I think I’ll never be able to figure it out. But these updates have indeed affected a major change in how Google works. First of all they were launched in the years of 2011 and 2012, respectively. And they’ve dealt a huge blow to many SEO experts worldwide. What these updates are about is basically banning the black hat techniques of the improving of site ratings on the Google search engine, and making websites with a high quality content stand out in the search results.
Google Panda, launched in 2011, was meant as way to keep the low quality, uninteresting websites down, while promoting the high quality sites up in the results. And it delivered on its promise – a lot of the websites that put in millions of dollars’ worth of advertising, but had mediocre content on their websites, found out that their online rank started to drastically drop down. This is all well, because the quality is the aspect that matters in the end, not how much the websites have paid for advertising. Since the launch of Google Panda, there have been many updates that have changed some of the aspects of how Google Panda works. A total of 22 updates have been implemented.
Google Penguin on the other hand was launched in 2012. And the essence of this update was that it banned the black hat techniques of improving one’s online website rank. If a website broke one of the Google’s Webmaster Guidelines set the by the search engine, then it became liable to lose its online ranking and drop down on the list. This is a very useful update as well because it means that the pure, unadulterated quality websites will rise to the top, while the black hat engineered websites will fall down.
And this is the gist of the matter. We hope that you’ve gained a bit of understanding on the issue of Google Panda and Google Penguin, two very important updates to the Google search engine. With that in mind, we hope that you’ll grasp how you can improve your website’s ranking as well.
